Archaeological Survey And Excavation Continues On The Wreck Site
Five iron cannons were located in close proximity to the wreck in groups of 2 and 3. They are heavily concreted and also have live coral and sponges in places which make it impossible to get the original measurements accurately or to read any markings. However measuring them we can say that they are not all of the exactly same size and design, but all believed to be 4pdr. When measuring the cannons we had to be very careful not to get in direct contact with the black sea urchins who were all over but especially likes hanging around on these cannons .. Those sea urchins can move surprisingly fast when they want to.
As the excavation slowly revealed more and more of the wrecks massive timbers, it was carefully measured in and photographed. Apart from the still photos, the project was also kindly donated the loan of underwater cameras linked up to monitors on the surface. A big thank you to Aqua Scan and Abyss for kindly providing us with the use of their cameras for the duration of the project.
