The Sustainable Tourism Conference Held In St Kitts
The Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development was held in St Kitts on the 9th - 12th September 2003. The theme for the conference was the protection of cultural heritage. This was a very successful conference with a large attendance. During the conference, Simon addressed the delegates on the St Kitts Maritime Archaeological Project. A detailed presentation explained how the first phase, the survey of the White House Bay Wreck, was conducted as well as information on the next two exciting phases was given. Some of the artefacts rescued from the wreck were on display as well as a slideshow of photographs taken during the field school.
This was followed by a site visit where divers and snorkelers were able to look at the wreck site as well as the cannons.
ADMAT would like to thank Minister G. A. Dwyer Astaphan, Randolph Hamilton, Aurelie Lam from the Ministry of Tourism, Jacqueline Armony and Lindon Williams from the St. Christopher Heritage Society, Kenneth Samuel from Kenneth's Dive Center, Major Wallace, The members of the St Christopher and Nevis Coastguard as well as local members of ADMAT, Hazel Brooks, Dierdre Stubs and Dr. Ron Jorgenson.
